Celebrating Our Team During Blood Collectors Week 2024

Without our Donor Care teams, we couldn’t fulfill our lifesaving mission. They interact with valued donors and other supporters every day, collecting the vital products that patients need.

Every year, these team members collect nearly 1.7 million donations – representing 11% of the nation’s blood supply.

The Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies and Fresenius Kabi have declared Sept. 1-7, 2024, as Blood Collectors Week.

We’re proud of all the blood collectors belong to the Vitalant family. We asked a few of them to share their thoughts on their roles and why Vitalant is the best place to work.

The best part: “Knowing that I’m doing my part saving lives. Hearing donors come in and telling stories of friends and family whose lives were saved from the blood they received.”

Why Vitalant: “You not only make a difference in saving people’s lives, you make friends and it feels like a family. Not only with your coworkers but donors, too!”

The best part: “Interacting with blood donors. It allows me to witness firsthand the incredible generosity and compassion of individuals who selflessly contribute to saving lives. Each conversation is a reminder of the profound impact their donations have, and their stories and dedication inspire me daily. It’s truly rewarding to be a part of such a meaningful mission and to see the positive difference that each donor makes.”

Why Vitalant: “It combines my passion for making a tangible difference with the opportunity to connect with incredible people. Every day, I get to be part of a lifesaving process that directly impacts the well-being of individuals in need. The meaningful interactions with donors and the shared sense of purpose make this role not only fulfilling but also deeply rewarding. It’s a privilege to contribute to such a vital cause and to work alongside a dedicated team committed to improving lives.”

The best part: “Getting to know our donors. I like to learn their reasons for donating, and I have developed quite a few friendships over the years.”

Why Vitalant: “Not every day is sunshine and rainbows. On the tougher days, seeing shippers full of blood and platelets puts things in perspective for me. There are people having a way worse day than me, and because of the kindness of strangers, they are given a chance and will hopefully see more rainbows and sunshine.”
