Severe winter storms bringing debilitating snow, ice and cold to much of the United States are causing widespread concern for the nation’s blood supply.

Joint Statement on the Blood Supply
The blood supply in the United States is critically low and the majority of the country’s blood centers are reporting significant declines in their blood collections. As the nation confronts new surges of COVID-19 cases, blood services organizations across the country are joining together to urge eligible individuals to make and keep an appointment to donate blood now.

Vitalant Donors Support Wildfire and Hurricane Zones with Blood Donations
Thanks to the generosity of blood donors, Vitalant sent additional units of blood to our locations in the West and South that were forced to temporarily close donation centers and cancel blood drives due to wildfires and Hurricane Sally. In addition, Vitalant has shipped more than 500 blood units so far to other blood centers in the fire and flooding zones to support area hospitals.
